WHAT MANAGEMENT IS ?????

Today we are living in a world where management affects everyone mostly people think that management is difficult topic to talk about because everyone have a different meaning of management whether he is our hon'ble Railway Minister Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav or Management guru M.Radhakrishnan or famous management writer Robin Sharma. But I am talking about a very little topic that "WHAT MANAGEMENT IS".

Good management need was first arises In1970's when The shareholders -the real owner of business became dissatisfied with the way many companies were managed. They felt that managers were more concerned with empire building and maintaining lavish lifestyle, then looking after the interests of shareholders. This resulted in tussles for corporate control between owners and management and many managers were booted out. This led to management becoming more responsive to the interest of the owners and realized the importance of providing value to shareholders as well as customers.

According to me to understand management one does not need to be an MBA-but, to work as a manager one needs to have some managerial literacy or a working knowledge of the discipline of management. Two basic premises of management are:1.working together towards a common goal and ; 2.importance of getting things done.

Working together towards a common goal is a main thing for a manager because completing a project or a consignment is not a one man show, it requires a team work. Whenever we have seen that people worked together the best results came out. We have the example of American Express, a company with most successful business model of all times, there are others also like Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft and yet this list is uncountable. according to David Packard - profit is not the proper end and aim of management - it is something what makes all the proper ends and aims possible

Good Managers must live in the future as much as in the present while they are concerned with immediate result, they must also look to the future. It is true that to stay ahead tomorrow, they must innovate today. Whether innovation is a risky business and there is no guarantee that investment in innovation will pay of in the future

Now I would sum up with this line that an entrepreneur who cannot manage will not succeed and a manager who does not innovate will fail..................
